Yousif Dawood Alsayegh: "Shaping Bahrain's Architectural Legacy"
Yousif Dawood Al Sayegh, an influential Iraqi architect, gave a memorable talk at the Bahrain National Museum on March 10, 2024, discussing his notable projects, concepts, and master plans. Al Sayegh studied architecture at Baghdad University (1960-1965) and later earned a master’s in architecture and master planning from the University of Pennsylvania in 1976. He first came to Bahrain in 1970 for an architectural competition for the Chamber of Commerce, which later became the Sheraton Hotel.
Throughout his career, Al Sayegh worked on many iconic projects in Bahrain, including the Kanoo Building, Gold Souq, and one of his latest works, the Bahrain National Charter Monument. He also proposed a visionary master planning concept for Bahrain, advocating that cities should be designed based on functional socioeconomic studies rather than just traffic analysis, challenging the conventional planning methods of the time. His innovative ideas and works have left a lasting impact on Bahrain’s architectural and urban landscape.
